Montana, due to its small population and rugged landscape, fares better than the vast majority of the United States regarding light pollution. Nonetheless, the urban areas, particularly along the I-90, I-15, U.S. 93 and U.S. 2 corridors all exhibit significant swaths of light pollution. Anyone living in one of Montana's larger cities (our own Flathead Valley included) must travel thirty, forty or even fifty miles out into the country to gain access to nice, dark skies.
