2019 BSAC Meeting and Club Events Calendar

The primary tenet of the BSAC is promoting education in the science of Astronomy through public outreach.

To further our stated purpose, each year the Big Sky Astronomy Club hosts several public outreach events around the Flathead Valley. Events include star parties, workshops, seminars and observing of special astronomical occurrences (such as comets, transits, solar and lunar eclipses, etc.).

Over the years, the Big Sky Astronomy Club has provided star parties and astronomy workshops for such diverse groups as the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, elementary, middle and high school classes, other non-profit organizations as well as the residents of a local assisted living center. If your group would be interested in having the BSAC provide you a special program, please feel free to drop us a line. These services are provided free of cost.

Simply use the "Comment and Question" form on our "Contact Us" page.

Check here often, as new events will be added to our calendar as the year progresses.

NOTES:

June's New Moon falls on the 2nd of the month. Consequently, the Friday nearest the New Moon would fall on May 31, giving us two meeting dates in that month. We therefore have moved the June meeting to the 28th.

The July, August and September club meetings may not be held due to conflicts with summer star parties. As those star party dates are finalized, this calendar will be updated accordingly, so check back later in the spring for those updates.

Also, as our other summer public event dates become finalized, they will also appear on the calendar, so check back later in the spring for updates regarding other events.

TIPS:

The dates with the dark blue background and highlighted in red indicate the dates of our monthly BSAC club meetings.

The dates with the dark blue background and highlighted in yellow indicate that a public BSAC event is planned (or that a notable Astronomical Event occurs) on that date.

Hovering your mouse over the event will bring up a tool tip that contains a small description of the event.

With the exception of the Club Meeting Dates and the Daylight Savings dates, clicking a calendar date will open an overlay that will provide you with additional information about that particular event.

BSAC Club Meetings

The Big Sky Astronomy Club meets monthly on the Friday nearest the New Moon. Our meetings are held at the West Valley Volunteer Fire Department located at 2412 Farm-To-Market Road, 6 miles northwest of Kalispell. Meetings begin at 7 PM. Here is the location of our club meetings, courtesy of Google Earth (zoom out to get a wider view of the West Valley Fire Hall's location, in relation to the cities of Kalispell, Whitefish and Columbia Falls):

Note: It doesn't matter if the Friday of our club meeting falls before or after the New Moon, just whichever day is closer.

Our meeting date near the dark of the Moon gives us an opportunity to do some observing as a group following our meetings under nice, dark skies in the large parking lot adjacent to the fire hall.

Please feel free to download your own personal copy of our Meeting Schedule in PDF format.

And, of course, visitors are encouraged to attend any of our meetings and events.
